What is oil refining
The process of refining of crude oil and removing impurities is known as refining of the fats and oils.
What is crude oil
By pressing or leaching, the unrefined vegetable fats and oils are commonly known as crude oil.
The main component of crude oil
Mixed fatty acid triglycerides, commonly known as the neutral oil. Phospholipids, free fatty acids, pigments, peroxides, waxes and various mechanical impurities. The presence of these impurities is bad for taste , processed and storage of the fats and oils.
Mechanical impurities mixed with oil
Refers to the sediment, blank powder, cake, fiber, grass clippings and other solid impurities in the oil producing and storing process. Such impurities are not soluble in oil, so it can be removed by filter and settlement .
Oil pigment can make grease with darker colors, affect the oil appearance, LDorption will be used to remove it from the oil.
Main process of refining
The process of colloid impurities removal in oil called degumming, the colloidal impurities in crude oil mostly is phospholipid, so deguming is often called the dephosphorization . Degumming method include hydration method, adding acid method. heating method, and the LDorption method.
Alkali refining deacidification
It refers to the refining process that saturate the free fatty acids with alkali, then generate fatty acid salts (soap) and water, the soap LDorb a portion of impurity then settling out from the oil.
The precipitate formed called soapstock. The alkali used for saturating the free fatty acids is NaOH or Na2(CO)3 or Ca(OH)2 and so on. the oil industry generaly use caustic soda.
The alkali refining itself has the synthetic action of deacidification, degumming, off impurities and decoloration.

The pure triglycerides is no odor. the Oxides of non-glyceride (ketones, aldehydes,
hydrocarbons) and unsaturated fatty acid glycerides have odor. odor generated in the oil making process, such as the odor in the leaching grease solvent, soap odor in the alkali refining oil and clay odor in decolorization oil.
